The following is an entry sent in for our monthly
Silly Farm Supplies Competition!
“My First Learning Experience”
By Laura
My first learning experience with sponges was not a fun experience….let’s just say I learned the hard way that certain sponges are not made for painting faces. Here I was, just had my first face painting class and all excited, ready to go. (Thank goodness) I decided to use my 4 year old daughter as my canvas. She wanted to be a pink princess so I said ok.

I took out a sponge that I bought from a craft store (HL), cut in in half, wet it, etc.
I looked at the sponge and thought….hmm…it did not look like this at my class….oh well, I thought.
NO sooner that I started applying the paint on her face that it started going everywhere! It was a total mess and I had no control over where the paint was going! And her face is tiny!( I assume it was too saturated)
Fortunately, she can be a patient young lady because I wiped a lot of it off with a baby wipe and made it look at least a little bit better with the designs…..I sort of saved it but learned the hard way that I should only use appropriate sponges, like the ones from Silly Farm…..*sigh*
LOL – Thanks!!

Been there… done that! Lol! Wet the paint a bit, not the sponge. It’ll help you to control the process better. Try with a sprayer till you get it just right
Have fun!
It looks like your daughter enjoyed it, even though it didn’t come out perfect!……
That’s so funny! I started out trying to do cheek art. I didn’t know much about face painting and thought cheek art (like we did in the 60’s) was all face painting was. Thank God a very good face painter, BeBe, The Clown, took me under her wing and taught me how to use the sponge. It took a while for me to learn not to overload the sponge, but I got it now. I fall asleep thinking of new designs and can’t wait to try them out the next day. It’s just so much fun!!
