Round Brush Brushstrokes Techniques Video

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

I found a great video by Donna Dewberry who will show you how to paint beautiful scroll work - curls, twirls, letters and leaves with a round brush. Now, she uses a canvas, but you can apply these techniques to face painting for fantastic looking princess and fairy masks. Watch the video, then practice the pressure/release exercises that she shows you!

Did you find this helpful? Would you like to see more of this sort of thing on the blog? Please leave a comment and tell us what you think :-)

Websites to Advertise Your Facepainting Business

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

This is the first of many posts about advertising your facepainting business online. To start off, I wanted to help out people who don’t have a website yet but want to have a prescence on the web to begin with. (For those of you who have a website, this post will still be beneficial).

You don’t need your own webpage to advertise your face painting business, you can piggyback off other sites by listing your information on their directories. There are children’s entertainer directories all over the internet, that will let you submit all your details - Business name, description, location, phone number and website if you have one.

Quite a few of these are Free and some you will have to pay for. Start by submitting your details to the free directories straight away, because you’ve nothing to lose!

Here is a list of free websites you can submit to:

www.fpbaa.com (International)
www.partypop.com (International)
www.hotfrog.com (USA)

www.hotfrog.co.uk (UK)
www.freeindex.co.uk (UK)

www.entertainoz.com.au (Australia)
www.party-oz.com.au (Australia)
www.hotfrog.com.au (Australia)

Want to learn face paint designs? Here are some websites that require a fee for your listing:

www.snazaroo.com (International) $10
www.kids-partycabin.com  (International) 15 GBP
www.gigsalad.com/Variety/Face-Painter  (USA and Canada) $69

Mum Loses Her Models When They Become Face Painters - SF Comp

“Mum Loses Her Models When They Become Face Painters!”
Sent in by Karen Witt

For the past year I have been getting right into face painting. I love it! But of course every eager face painter needs eager, patient (and forgiving) models to practice on in the early days.

Lucky for me, I am a MUM! My daughter Azura, who is 5 and her best friend Lauren jump at having their faces painted at every possible opportunity. They love to feel that they have thought up their own designs and elaborately explain the colours and images they want painted. It’s so cute.

I have recently given them a couple of old paint brushes and a few colour samples of face paint to have a go on themselves and each other. Bad move by me! Now that they have been liberated with artistic freedom, I’ve lost my two best models! :0

They want to paint each other’s faces instead of sitting for me. But it’s great to see that what I enjoy doing so much is also a fun activity for them. It will be part of their many happy memories of childhood.

Happy painting everyone!

Cake Paints Vs Liquid Paints: What Do You Prefer?

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

Had a question on the blog recently about cake paints and liquid paints. Kim Baker left a comment with the question:

Buy Snazaroo Cake Face Paints“What are the pros/cons of liquid paint? Do most face painters use the cakes and only liquids for certain things?”

For those of you who didn’t see the comments thread last week this is what I said:

“……And liquid paint verses cakes? Its totally up to the painter. Some beginners might find the liquid paints easier because it can sometimes be tricky to get the right consistency when working with cakes…. Try both, see what works for you.”

But I want to hear, what everyone else thinks about
Cake Paints and Liquid Paints!

What kind of face paints do you use? Do you prefer cake paints or liquid paints…and Why? What brands do you like to use?

Share your opinion with us - leave a comment by clicking here, I’d really like to hear your thoughts :-)

Happy Face Painting,

Are You Advertising Your Face Painting Business Online?

Tuesday, February 19th, 2008

If you’re not advertising your face painting business online, you’re probably losing money! Gone are the days where people refer to only the yellow pages when ever they need to look up a trade or service. People are doing their searching online…. so can these potential customers find your face painting business online?

artistic_teen_with_laptopIn the next couple of weeks I’m going to be writing posts about different ways that you can advertise yourself on the internet. I’ll give you different websites that you can advertise on, talk about setting up free webpages, tell you what you must have on your webpage etc. It’s valuable information, that probably won’t stay up on the blog forever so stay tuned.

Don’t worry, I won’t use any big geeky words, if you know very little about the internet you will still find it all very easy to understand!

But in this post I just wanted to ask you all a few questions…. so that I have a better idea of what information to give you.

* What kind of advertising do you use already online?

* Do you have your own website?

* Do you use free services like myspace?

To leave your answer, or to ask me a question just leave a comment by clicking here.

Beginner Face Painting Success - SF Competition

Monday, February 18th, 2008

The following is an entry sent in for our monthly Silly Farm Supplies Competition!

“Beginner Face Painting Success!”
Sent in by Mylene Losier

I am very new to the face painting world, but wanted to share a great experience I had starting out.  I was recruited to do face painting for a childrens christmas party at my work.  Needless to say I had no idea what I was doing, but I like challenges and accepted the position.

Face Paint DesignsI went out and got books, ideas and practiced during the week I had to prepare.  Yes!  I only had a week to prepare!  So here I am on the morning of that day, nervous, but also excited.

The first child I did wanted a dolphin, and I thought “Oh boy, I only studied christmas stuff!” But I smiled and said “Sure sweetheart!” and did the best I could.  It wasn’t the prettiest dolphin out there, but she was so happy, it gave me the confidence to keep going.  All the kids came to get cheek art or their face painted, some even came more than once!

At the end of the day, I had enjoyed myself so much, I decided to keep doing face painting.
