i have 2 questions- what kind of chair do you sit a child in if you are sitting and painting- I feel like my neck gets a crick in it. I saw director’s chairs- are they used for when the painter is standing? Also, any ideas for how to display ideas for kids to choose designs from?

Norma - Great to hear you’re enjoying the blog, its always nice to hear from you
Kim Baker - Great questions! I might do a couple blog posts explaining these in more detail, but for now….
When it comes to chairs, you might want to get a chair with adjustable height for the model, so you can adjust the seat accordingly depending on whether they’re tall or short. It’s much easier when the models face is at the same height as yours.
When you’re sitting down, always paint in a comfortable position, don’t lean forward too much because you can hurt your neck and back, make the model lean forward if anything, (they only have to do it for 5 minutes, you have a lot longer)
Directors chairs are really popular, a popular place for face painters to get them is EZ up: http://www.ezup.com/accessories/dirchair.shtml
And as for displaying designs…. take photos of your designs, print them out, glue them to a piece of cardboard, laminate it, then stick that to a thicker piece of board (the one with foam inbetween maybe) And find a way to prop it up like maybe put it on your table between two books.
Hope that helps
Happy Face Painting,

I have just started doing parties and I’m not sure how to price them. Some are close to home and some are about an hour away. How do I give my customers the right price?

Hi Christina,
Great question! I’ll be writing a post very soon that will answer this question. There is no quick answer to this, it depends on a variety of things like, what area you work in, how long you’ve been face painting, how many faces, how long is it to travel to the gig etc
And to Mrs. Bunny, The Clown, glad to hear you’re enjoying our blog!
Happy Face Painting,

I just wanted to say that I am looking forward to the expansion of this site/blog! I also would like to mention that I find standing while painting works better for me! My feet are stronger than my back! Ouch! You’ve got to find out what works best for you! Happy Painting!
