Today I’m going to share with you a face painting technique that I really like to use, it’s a technique that will allow you to quickly paint simple face paint designs like a flower or a butterfly with a beautiful two toned effect!

(Thanks to a lady named Jan who left a comment on our blog with this idea, we appreciate all the comments, they inspire us to put up more posts!)

*First, load your brush with the color that you want the core of the flower to be, we used yellow in the photo. (But you can use whatever color you want.)

*Then dip just the tip of the brush in a darker color, we used red. About 1/4 of the brush.

*Then all you have to do is press the brush (tip facing out) 5 or 6 times to make petals.

This will give you beautiful multi-tone petals!

You can also use this technique on other face paint designs like the butterfly, and if you want you can outline the design in black with a small thin brush:

I am a licensed makeup artist of 15 years, but I am new to face painting. Where I live in Maryland, we have several makeup application regulations that are in place to prevent cross contamination. We have to use clean, sanitized brushes on each client. We also have to remove the makeup from it’s container with a spatula to create a fresh pallette for each client.

Do you know if any states regulate face painting or require some sort of license?

Love your book and blog! Thanks.

    Hi Michele,

The same rules apply to face painting, but I can’t say for sure in your state/country. But there should definately be some information on the net about it regarding your state.

Thank-you for reminding me that in a weeks time is October Thirty-First. I think I told you that some of the time have to be careful on what I can say. Just hoping this time around this will get through to you. As I told you having a friend face painting me as a tiger influenced by your step by step instruction. At one time would of been interested in doing such things but for the meantime just enjoy what I’m percieving. Do you have anything concerning Christmas time. Talk to you later alligator signed the crocodile Gerald Skarzynski. El cielo canta alegria, aleluya. Amen. Maranatha.

I love these quick and easy designs. What type of paint was used for the flower? Do you have any quick and easy dragons or snakes as the boys are always asking for these. Also is there anyone from Ireland? if so where do you buy your paints, brushes and glitters?
