How to Paint Stitches for Halloween Designs

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Happy Halloween! The most fun, creative and spooky occasion of the year is finally here! Many of you will be out trick or treating no doubt, and some of you will be attending Halloween parties if not tonight than this weekend.

One of my favorite halloween make up ideas are painting Stitches! And we were recently asked how to paint stitches on the blog, so here’s how you do it!

halloween make up stitchesStitches work great on any part of the body - arms, legs, face, neck… where ever!

And its easier than you think, to make it look really cool!

Firstly, get a small thin brush and paint a red line with dots like in the picture.

Then use black face/body paint to paint a curved line between each pair of dots. (Makesure the lines are curved, to give it a more 3d effect.) Then paint a black line right next to the red line, overlapping a little.

The last thing you need to do get some white paint, and paint slightly over the black curved lines in the picture… and thats all there is to it!

Halloween Face Painting Photos and Party Ideas

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

As I said in yesterdays post, I’d show you some more Halloween face painting photos from the Halloween party my children were at, so here they are and I hope you get some good ideas for your Halloween party celebrations!

Halloween Mummy Costume Fun!

Left: My sister is turning my daughter into a toilet paper mummy! A fun halloween game and costume for the kiddies! (Please remember to recycle if you’re going to do this)

Right: My daughter asked me to paint a simple black mask around her eyes, I don’t know where she got the idea but I think its similar to the mask in “The Incredibles”. Although if you ask her she’ll tell you that she invented the design!

 Halloween Girl Costumes

 Halloween Face Painting Mask

Above: My nieces, a fairy and a candy goth… whatever that means, gee its hard to keep up with the kids sometimes! I painted a simple black and red mask on her, took all of 2 minutes to do with only two colors - red and black and it looks smashing!

Halloween Spider Web Decorating

My sister went all out with the Halloween decorations this year. Cheap party lights, fake cob webs and a few toy bats and spiders hanging about the ceiling, doesn’t it look great?! Would love to hear your feedback about this post.

We had such a good time this halloween, and it didn’t involve too much planning or big spending either. Making your own costumes and doing your own make up is so much fun for you and the kids, I hope you have a ball!

Halloween Make Up Ideas

Monday, October 29th, 2007

halloween make up ideasHere’s a couple halloween make up ideas that I came up with just this last weekend! My daughters, their cousins and friends had a fun halloween party, and I was busy face painting as usual.

The mask on the girl has a kind of a gothic feel to it (very popular with tweens and teens) and it uses the ‘tear drop technique’. To learn this technique watch this video:
How to Face Paint the Tear Drop Technique Video.

We also put some black feathers in her hair and she wore a pretty black dress with fish net stockings. Simple home made costumes are so much fun, and it lets you and your child be creative!

The design on the boy is so quick and simple, two squiggly lines for a moustache and to curved lines for some menacing eyebrows is what he requested, and he loved it! Kids tend to pick easy designs, so always ask them what they want.

I’ll post some more halloween make up ideas, costume ideas and games tomorrow so stay tuned and tell me what you think about these designs, would love to hear your comments/feed back!

Face Paint Designs Steps: Multi-Tone Flower

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007

Today I’m going to share with you a face painting technique that I really like to use, it’s a technique that will allow you to quickly paint simple face paint designs like a flower or a butterfly with a beautiful two toned effect!

(Thanks to a lady named Jan who left a comment on our blog with this idea, we appreciate all the comments, they inspire us to put up more posts!)

*First, load your brush with the color that you want the core of the flower to be, we used yellow in the photo. (But you can use whatever color you want.)

*Then dip just the tip of the brush in a darker color, we used red. About 1/4 of the brush.

*Then all you have to do is press the brush (tip facing out) 5 or 6 times to make petals.

This will give you beautiful multi-tone petals!

You can also use this technique on other face paint designs like the butterfly, and if you want you can outline the design in black with a small thin brush:

Here’s a quick face painting tip for children this Halloween…

Try not to paint the area around their mouths, alter the design if needed, that way when they get into mess eating their halloween treats, they won’t end up eating paint and messing up your beautiful face paint design!

And if you don’t have any face paint designs ready for Halloween, then don’t worry because…

It won’t take you long to to learn with our Halloween face paint designs, step by step photos and instructions!

Halloween Make Up Ideas - Wrinkles, Moles and Warts!

Thursday, October 18th, 2007

Here are some fun halloween make up ideas for you and your kids that you can combine with your face painting!

Wrinkles and Bumps

To create an unusual skin texture or wrinkles, use white school glue. Find a white glue that is safe for use on the skin, is completely non-toxic and easy to remove.

For wrinkles, apply a thin layer of glue to the skin stretched out by your fingers. Dry the glue quickly with a hair dryer on low, or let air dry. Once the paste is completely dry, release the skin for instant wrinkles. To create this effect all over, work in small patches at a time.

For bumps and other skin distortions, apply other materials to your skin with white glue. A great example is to use dampened cereal flakes with white glue for a monster-like skin texture.

Moles and Warts
Utilize white glue again for moles or warts – great for witches or celebrity costumes. Glue puffed wheat cereal on to the skin, once dry, color black or brown with makeup or face paint.

Halloween Make Up Ideas - Scars and Teeth

Tuesday, October 16th, 2007

Here are a couple of my favorite halloween make up ideas that you can easily use with our face paint designs this Halloween.

Scars
To create the look of scars on your skin, you can use gelatin for a simple but realistic look. Combine the gelatin with hot water and stir. Let it cool to a comfortable temperature to place on your skin – room temperature, but still gooey. Mold this mixture onto skin in the shape of a scar or other gross effect. Once its dry, you can add face paint or foundation to create a skin tone look, or red food coloring for a more bloody texture look. Halloween make up ideas like this work great with a zombie face paint design!

Teeth
Buy a black tooth cap at a costume shop or Halloween store. Halloween make up ideas like this also work great with zombie face paint designs, monster and witch!

Stay tuned for more halloween make up ideas :-)
