Children’s Face Painting - Why Do They Love It? Open Mic

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

Children’s face painting - it’s ever so popular, where ever there’s children, and a face painting booth, there’s bound to be a line of excited children waiting to get their faces painted!

But why do children love face painting so much?

children’s face paintingWell, children definately crave attention and face painting gives one on one attention (that sadly due to the busy nature of society these days) they might not get that often. It makes them feel special, even if it’s only for 5 minutes, it can make a big difference in a child’s day.

It also lets them feel creative, when they get to pick the design and you really involve them in the process by telling them what you’re doing and what you’re going to paint next.

Children’s face painting is also very popular because it can enable them to create a character, and pretend to be that character for a day. They get to explore a different side of themselves, like the princess or the pirate within them!

But why do you think children’s face painting is so popular?

Why do they love it so much…
and which part do you think they enjoy the most?

How to Properly Apply Camouflage Face Paint

Monday, August 13th, 2007

Do you want to know the secrets and techniques for applying camoflage face paint? Read this article I found…it was written for adults who want to apply camo face paint but can you can adapt it for kids. It covers some pretty advanced techniques, so if you really want to further your face painting you should be experimenting with this!

*****************************************

(idea) by St.George (2 mon)

You see it in movies all the time, actors who don’t have a clue, trying to put camo face paint on their faces, and ending up looking very silly indeed. I will try to explain how to put your camo face paint on properly and why it should be done like that.

Firstly you must understand why things are seen, they all begin with S or M, (except one) so remember that and it shouldn’t be that hard. They are:

camo face paint* Shine
* Shape
* Shadow
* Sound
* Movement
* And Colour

By putting on camo face paint, you are trying to stop some of these things being noticed. To a human, one of the most recognisable things that you can possibly see is another human, or a human face. So it is very important that you make your face as unrecognisable as possible, this does not mean that you put one strip of paint under each eyes, nor does it mean that you paint your face so green that you look like a serious case of facial gangrene.

So, the first thing to do is to make sure you have the right type of camo face paint. To begin with it has to be waterproof, otherwise you’d have to re-apply it after every time it rained. [This is not necessary for face painting kids] Second, you have to make sure you have the right colours. (more…)

Face Painting Designs Inspirations with Pauline: 002 - Apron to Face Painting Design

Friday, August 10th, 2007

 Hi everyone, here’s my next post. Thanks to all the comments. It’s always nice to hear your thoughts. If you have any suggestions on what you would like to see turned into a design, please leave a comment…I’m up for any challenge. :)

apron1.jpgLooking around my house, I came across an old apron that was probably my mothers. It had a flower pattern that contained two different flower designs.

 You could choose just one of the flower designs as a motif, making your own pattern to create a face painting design. I have chosen to use both flower designs, and created a faceflowerdesign.jpg painting design for the side of the face.

Changing the colors slightly and the angles, the design wrapped nicely around the cheek bone and up around the forehead. I  have chosen not to have a background color, however it would be easy enough to sponge the red on first, let it dry and then paint the design on.

face.jpgHere is the final result. It’s a very simple design, starting with the white, then yellow, red and finally the black. I used a thin pointed brush, don’t worry about being precise, just be confident with the strokes and make sure you have your brush loaded with paint. The most problem people have in creating clean lines is not enough paint, having to go over a line or restart a line, so make sure you have enough paint to paint a line in one go.

Thanks for your company….remember to be inspired and create. Your next inspiration could be looking you in the face. :)

Attract More Business by Facepainting with a Smile

Thursday, August 9th, 2007

Sounds simple, but it works so well in the facepainting industry! If you’re offering any service in public, especially a service which involves children then the magic of smile is going to take you a long way!

Sure, it might be hard when you’ve had a bad day, but kids and adults come to you for a good time, not to hear you wine about your troubles like the traffic, your mother in law from hell or your opinion on what’s wrong with the government!

Think about it from a childs point of view…would a child want to get his/her face painted by a grumpy looking face painter…or a cheery and fun looking face painter?

Having a smile and a cheery attitude, makes a difference.

So, use your beautiful smile, and spread the magic of facepainting!

Make More Money When Face Painting By Upselling!

Monday, August 6th, 2007

Would you like fries with that? — We’ve all heard the line, but have you ever tried upselling when you’re out facepainting? Alot of you would probably answer no, and some of you might be unclear about what up selling really is. So before I go any further here is a definition from Wikipedia:

Up-selling is a sales technique whereby a salesman attempts to have the consumer purchase more expensive items, upgrades, or other add-ons in an attempt to make a more profitable sale. Up-selling usually involves marketing more profitable services or products, but up-selling can also be simply exposing the customer to other options he or she may not have considered previously.

spare cash earnt from facepaintingIf all you’re doing is giving the customer what they asked for instead of giving the customer what they’ve asked for AND asking them if they’d like more — then you could be losing some serious money!

It’s a known fact that if somebody is willing to spend money on a particular product or service,  thirty percent of the time they’ll spend even more, if the opportunity arises infront of them. And it’s your job to makesure that opportunity arises, you have to makesure that everyone who comes to your face painting booth, knows about your other services.

Now, you’re probably thinking…but what can I offer as an upsell, what other services can I offer?

And it’s much simpler than you’d think! Temporary tattoos, stickers, extra body painting, glitter hair spray can all be used as upsells to squeeze a little extra cash out of your customers.

pirate tattooA simple temporary tattoo can do wonders, say for example you’ve got a boy who wants to be painted as a pirate. All you have to say to the parent is “…for an extra $X I could add a temporary tattoo to his arm to really make him look like a mean pirate?” And it’s done! But you’ve got to ask for it, otherwise the parent wouldn’t have known.

And remember if a sixteen year old at McDonalds can do it, then so can you! Give upselling a go and see what happens!

Happy Face Painting :-)
